ABOUT THE PLAY

The story depicts the invasion of a country, a family paralyzed by loss, and a young woman placed in circumstances that will dramatically alter the life she had planned. Winner of five Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, was the final collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. From its opening in 1959, it immediately became the world’s most beloved musical on both stage and film. The inspirational story follows a young postulate who is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of an imperious naval captain, bringing joy and music to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire Von Trapp family must make a moral decision that will take tremendous courage and put them in grave danger.

The play features a young cast of aspiring local talent, the Young Acting Krew (YAK), supported by our amazing adult Mountain Page Players (MPP). As we begin our 4th Season, we continue to build a history of fine theatrical productions. Our MPT Board and staff are committed to creating productions worthy of notice. We are honored and humbled that you have supported this effort by your attendance and are part of a process that enables the children of our community interested in the performing arts to have this experience. Productions such as this leave an indelible mark on their development as they learn to appreciate the inner workings of artistic endeavor, benefit by the discipline and diligence required to perform, and know the joy they bring to others.

Mountain Page Theater is a 501c3 non-profit volunteer-driven organization. We welcome new volunteers, supporters, and Patrons of the Arts.
